I'm almost positive (a little electric humor) that Benjamin Franklin and his kite flying tale comes to your mind. It wasn't electricity that Ben discovered in 1752. It was the lightning rod. In 1800, Alessandro Volta constructed the first battery able to deliver a constant electric current. It was Volta, not Franklin, to discover electricity.
